Felix Humm’s ‘Chronicles’ stelae.
I got the idea of this project in 1996 after visiting the Louvre Museum in Paris with my little daughters.
In the souvenir shop in the Ancient Egyptian Art section there was a game of hieroglyph stamps, where each stamp represented a letter of our alphabet: with them the children could write secret messages to each other.
I bought the game and played with it myself and with the hieroglyphs I started composing news articles from various newspapers.
In this way these cryptographic stelae were born, hieroglyphs engraved on volcanic stone or slate, from which rice paper prints can be produced as well, using the Chinese technique called “stone rubbing”.

Stones and pieces of wood are fashioned found objects. They are sculptures and at the same time matrices of the incisions.
The litographic and xilografic incisions are all on Japan paper.
